The varieties are the result of a dedicated marker-assisted research programme. The markers help to identify DNA sequences that are favourable to the agronomic criteria sought, and thus promote the rapid identification of the best varieties.
The best candidate varieties are then tested for two years on a European experimentation network to validate them under farmers’ conditions.
