Soybean and Solutions
The global market & RAGT
Domesticated in Asia around 3000 years BC, soybean is the biggest protein rich species grown in the world with more than 135 million hectares. Appreciated for its outstanding balance between high protein content (40%) and oil (20%), soybeans offer the best ever source of protein for feed / food outlets and the oil is used for human consumption and biodiesel.
First introduced in Europe in the 17th century by the professor Friedrich Haberlandt, today soybean areas are significant, with much of the increase coming in the last ten years.
This pulse has integrated into European crop rotations, reaching more than one million hectares in 2023 within Member States. This reaches seven million hectares when Ukraine and Russia are taken into account. The financial support and subsidies of CAP 2023-2027 combine with national political policies to stimulate soya crops in Europe.
Since the 1970s, RAGT has contributed to soybean genetic progress by delivering non GMO varieties for the European market. It offers one of the largest maturity groups portfolio from MG0000 to MGII to fulfil the food and feed market.
