FARM SUITABILITY

Lucerne is one of the highest quality, most productive and most persistent forage species available, and RGT 514QL is bred to make the most of it across a wide range of New Zealand farming systems. Managed well, lucerne delivers high animal performance year after year and remains the most cost-effective source of home grown protein and energy on farm. Its deep root system also lets it tolerate dry conditions better than almost any other forage, which makes it valuable feed insurance through summer and increasingly variable seasons.

RGT 514QL carries leaf from the top of the plant right down to the soil surface, giving it an excellent leaf-to-stem ratio and strong protein production per hectare. That quality shows up in every cut or graze. Strong stand persistence and fast recovery after harvest keep production steady through spring, summer and autumn, while good pest and disease resistance protects leaf health and long-term paddock productivity. As a semi-dormant type with a dormancy rating of 5, it is the most broadly adaptable cultivar in the range, suiting farmers who want dependable, flexible performance across mixed systems and environments.

Strong performance through the key growing seasons

On the international lucerne dormancy scale of 1 to 10 (1 is highly winter dormant, 10 is highly winter active), RGT 514QL sits at 5. As a semi dormant type it delivers large volumes of high quality feed through spring, summer and autumn.
